Danube Delta
Formed over 10,000 years the Danube Delta in Romania formed by alluvial deposit by the Danube river is a UNESCO Biosphere reserve, the third largest in the world. Stretching over almost 3000 sq miles it is one of last remaining areas of wilderness in Europe and remains one of the most bio-diverse regions of the planet. One of the least populated parts of Europe it’s population is about 20,000 and to this day remains quite isolated from the vast industrial rest of Europe.
